North Texas News

Texas now leads the nation with 58 companies listed in the 2008 Fortune 500, with 23 of those companies based here in North Texas.  In fact, Texas has now surpassed New York as home to the highest number of big companies in the latest Fortune 500 rankings.

"There is no question that DFW International Airport (DFW) is a key reason why major corporations consider North Texas for a relocation of their headquarters or actually make the move," says Fortune publisher Hugh Wiley.  "Fortune 500 companies want easy, non-stop flights to major domestic and international cities for their employees and clients, and they want efficient global access for their cargo and manufactured products.  DFW is a major part of the overall equation for business success in the North Texas region that includes an abundant workforce, low taxes and higher education options."

DFW is proud to be mentioned as one of the key factors for this incredible ranking. The visionaries who created DFW in the 1960's knew it would be a success. But perhaps not even they could have imagined the Airport would spur the economic growth and business synergy that we see today.

All of us at DFW will continue to work hard to keep North Texas on top on this prestigious list.

Highlights you need to know:

  • DFW 's annual economic impact has grown to more than $16.6 billion, according to the most recent study by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
  • DFW and its associated businesses provide 305,000 jobs and more than $7 billion in annual payroll for the North Texas economy.
  • DFW is globally recognized as an "Airport City" - a growing trend for international airports to serve as business hubs for international companies that want quick, efficient access to global markets.
