June 29, 2010 - For 70 days, tons of gallons of oil have continued to flow into the Gulf of Mexico. What began as an explosion on an oil rig on April 20 could now go on record as the greatest environmental disaster in the history of mankind. Last week, oil reached the Barrier Islands in Mississippi and Florida, forcing beaches near Alabama’s border in both states to close after large quantities of oil washed ashore.
In the long run, the affected states (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida) will be burdened not only by the spill’s costly cleanup and rehabilitation, but also the considerable economic damage that has already begun to be felt by local businesses. In particular, the fishing industry and tourism will suffer.
In recent weeks, our main office in Atlanta, GA, and our branch office in Houston, TX, have both received numerous requests from German companies wishing to provide innovative technologies and processes to help in the affected areas.
Over the course of the thirty years that the GACC South has been operating in the Southeast, we have built an extensive network across the states in this region. As a first point of contact for German companies in the U.S., we will use this network to find and direct you to where you may best help.
If you have questions, or would like to make connections with organizations that may be able to use your services, you may contact our offices in Atlanta and Houston using the contact information below.
