Making the Connection: People and International Negotiation

Success in completing partnerships depends upon managing many commercial and technical issues.  When cross-cultural differences dominate, final agreement is particularly problematic. Negotiations can be shortened and benefits increased by focusing on the subtle, often hidden, interplay between language, culture, and personality. With attention to these aspects as well as the content of negotiation, use of a few critical and easily implemented tools can bring increased success to long-term partnerships. The audience will be invited as well to share their reflections and stories.

The event is an excellent opportunity to network with other members of the German and international business communities of the greater Houston area. A light lunch will be served.

About the speaker

David is President of and Lead for dbm Consulting & Associates, LLC, a company specializing in the negotiation of commercial and technical agreements between international companies. His practice helps to create successful partnerships by integrating how we use spoken and written language, are guided by unconscious cultural biases, and negotiate for cooperation and power. A chemist by training but business person by experience, David spent 25 years in the energy industry, worked around the world, and lived in Germany and the Middle East.
