The German Energiewende pursues ambitious goals in terms of greenhouse gas emission reductions, renewable energy production and energy efficiency improvements. Moreover, it reduces Germany’s dependency on fossil fuel imports and therefore its exposure to price and supply risks. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is pursuing international energy policy cooperation, with the goal of building, trusting, and lasting energy relationships with partner countries.
In addition to Germany’s formalized energy partnerships, the high-level, yet non-formalized energy dialogue facilitates regular bilateral exchange between both governments and other institutions and stakeholders. The core of the dialogue consists of key energy policy issues as well as common challenges and opportunities. By fostering mutual learning, the energy dialogue aims to strengthen the energy transition, as well as effective energy policies and cooperation.
The German American Chambers of Commerce, under the leadership of adelphi consult, is supporting the BMWi in their aim to foster energy policy exchange with the US. Germany and the US. Both are highly developed OECD countries, and already maintain excellent economic and political relationships. Moreover, they both have a large potential for expansion of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. With the energy policy dialogue, Germany aims to intensify the exchange of experience and explore new areas of collaboration.
The GACCs are the local point of contact for American stakeholders looking to engage in this energy dialogue. Within the framework of the energy dialogue, we organize energy policy events and expert workshops in the US, co-organize high-level delegation trips to Germany, and support the BMWi in its strategic communication with US energy policy stakeholders.
Within the GACC network, the lead office for the energy dialogue is GACC Midwest, headquartered in Chicago. In addition to adelphi consult, the GACCs are formally partnering with The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) and The Renewables Academy (RENAC) in the course of the energy dialogue.
The new publication “Doing Business in the Oil & Gas Sector Opportunities for German Companies 2019,” which was a group effort of the AHK Global Cluster for Oil & Gas, is officially completed. The article on the US can be found on page 48.
