It's been an exciting few weeks for Aurubis' GACATT Mechatronics apprentices, and we're thrilled to share some highlights from their journey so far.

Aurubis’ GACATT Mechatronics apprentices have had a productive summer filled with technical training, professional development, and community engagement. From strengthening their metalworking skills to supporting local schools, the apprentices continue to make meaningful progress both inside and outside the classroom.

Through their partnership with Augusta Technical College and GACC South, Aurubis is helping prepare the next generation of automated manufacturing professionals. The GACATT Apprenticeship Program combines classroom education with structured, on-the-job training, giving apprentices the opportunity to build technical expertise and gain valuable workplace experience aligned with international training standards set by DIHK.

Hands-On Technical Training

Throughout the summer, the apprentices have focused on developing essential metalworking fundamentals through hands-on technical training. After completing their first Christiani exercise several weeks ago, they are now wrapping up their third.

Each exercise gives the apprentices an opportunity to apply what they have learned, gain confidence using tools and equipment, and further develop practical skills that will support their future careers in mechatronics and advanced manufacturing. Their steady progress reflects both their commitment to the program and the guidance provided by their instructors and mentors.

Recognizing Mentor Tre Williams

The success of an apprenticeship program also depends on dedicated mentors who are willing to share their knowledge and support the next generation of skilled professionals.

Tre Williams has played an important role in guiding Aurubis’ apprentices throughout the program. His commitment, encouragement, and practical expertise have helped the apprentices navigate their training and continue building their skills. Aurubis also recently announced Tre’s promotion. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!

Giving Back Through Stuff the Bus

The apprentices also took time away from their technical training to participate in the local Stuff the Bus volunteer initiative. During the event, they helped carry, organize, sort, and pack school supplies into buses for distribution to schools throughout the community.

Their participation demonstrates that apprenticeship development extends beyond technical knowledge. Programs such as GACATT also help participants strengthen teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and their connection to the communities in which they live and work.

Preparing for the Fall Semester

As the summer semester comes to a close, the apprentices are already preparing for the next stage of their training. They have registered for their fall courses at Augusta Technical College and will continue building upon the technical knowledge and practical experience they gained this summer.

Their progress is a strong example of how classroom education, structured workplace training, mentorship, and community involvement can work together to prepare young professionals for long-term careers in advanced manufacturing.

More updates will follow as the Aurubis GACATT Mechatronics apprentices continue their journey.
