GACC South welcomes Oliver Bientzle, who took up his post as Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Atlanta in July 2026.
The German Consulate General in Atlanta serves as the official representation of the German government across Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, making it an important partner in strengthening German-American relations throughout the Southeast.
“In the dynamic U.S. Southeast, my team and I aim to bring together people, businesses, ideas, and institutions, strengthen the close friendship between our countries further, and foster new partnerships for the future.”
Oliver Bientzle, Consul General
Consul General Bientzle brings extensive international and diplomatic experience to Atlanta. Before his appointment to the Southeast, he headed the division for the promotion of German as a foreign language and German schools abroad at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, a position he held beginning in 2021.
His diplomatic career has taken him to several key international posts, including the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York, the German Embassy in Yangon, the Permanent Mission of Germany to NATO in Brussels, and the German Embassy in Riyadh. At the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, he also worked in the divisions responsible for USA/Canada/G7 relations and the Middle East.
Originally from Offenburg, Germany, Bientzle studied economics at the University of Bamberg and also studied at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the College of Europe in Warsaw. Before entering Germany's diplomatic service, he worked as a management consultant and as an assistant to a Member of the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg.
His connection to North Carolina also marks a return to a region he already knows from his university years, now in a role focused on advancing Germany's diplomatic, economic, cultural, and educational ties across the Southeast.
For GACC South and the broader German-American business community, the Consulate General is a key partner in connecting institutions, companies, and communities on both sides of the Atlantic. Consul General Bientzle's international background and experience with transatlantic affairs bring valuable perspective to a region where German-American business ties continue to play an important role.
We look forward to working with Consul General Oliver Bientzle and his team to strengthen existing connections, build new partnerships, and continue advancing German-American relations across the Southeast.
